Make a statement in your bedroom with a custom headboard…
Create an elegant canopy by attaching curtain panels to the wall at the center point. Use MDF to make a cornice. Cover the tops of the window treatments with the cornice. Arrange the panels to frame the padded headboard and pull back with window treatment hooks.
Add padding to a plain headboard or choose a piece of plywood the width of your bed, top with a layer of foam, cover with fabric, and secure to plywood with a staple gun.
Create a naturally-modern headboard and make it any size you want. Buy a piece of plywood from your local home supply store. Sand it, stain it, seal it, and then set it behind your bed.
Budget very low? How about painting a headboard instead! Go freehand or find a stencil at a local crafts store or make your own. Cut the stencil from acetate with a crafts knife, affix the stencil to the wall using a spray adhesive or low-tack tape, and apply paint inside the stencil. Use acrylic paint or specially formulated stenciling cream for best results.
Simply create a headboard using a screen behind your bed. You can also paint a solid color block up to the ceiling on the wall behind the screen to help draw the eye upward for space-enhancing results.
And finally, consider using a paneled wooden door turned on its side as a headboard. To make a bigger headboard, use two or three doors and stand them up side by side. Purchase a new paneled door without a doorknob hole, or use a vintage door and place it on the wall so the hole is below the top of the mattress. Paint it or stain it, add moldings or leave it plain.
